Overview
The Concordat Assembly is the galaxy's closest approximation to a central government — a body of elected and appointed delegates who negotiate, legislate, and occasionally manage not to destroy one another. It was founded after the Silence Wars as a practical necessity. The alternative was continued conflict; the founders were exhausted enough to try something else.
Structure
The Assembly operates by weighted consensus. Each recognised system holds at least one delegate seat; larger systems hold proportionally more. The Presiding Chair rotates every five years by election among the full Assembly.
Day-to-day governance is handled by the Standing Committees — Trade, Security, Science, and Justice — each chaired by an elected delegate and staffed by a permanent civil service.
The Original Charter
The Concordat Charter has been amended 847 times. The original document, sealed in the Spire vaults, is rumoured to be barely recognisable as the same agreement signed by the founding systems. Several provisions from that original text have never been publicly disclosed.
